Nortek’s manufactured-housing specialists (a Rheem company since late 2024) — Miller and Intertherm are the default nameplates in mobile-home closets: downflow gas furnaces, E-series electric furnaces, and matched MH splits. Site-built parts do not substitute; the listings differ.

The family: Frigidaire, Maytag and Gibson badges on shared residential platforms (older units also wear Westinghouse), plus Miller and Intertherm in manufactured housing. Formerly Nordyne, then Madison Industries — part of Rheem Manufacturing since late 2024.

Manufactured-housing furnace & split

Covered in the simulator

Downflow cabinets in doorless closets, in-floor ducts, and equipment listed specifically for manufactured homes. A parallel parts universe — site-built components do not interchange.

Control-side diagnosis matches the sim, and on a cooling complaint with a matched MH split system the guided flow applies. The trap is parts: blower orientation, static ratings and listings are MH-specific — verify the listing before substituting anything.

Electric furnace / strip heat

Covered in the simulator

An air handler with resistance heat: strips, sequencers or contactors, and real amperage. Standard in the Sun Belt, in apartments, and in manufactured housing.

Control side and blower are fully modeled; sequenced strip-heat tickets are on the roadmap. On cooling complaints the guided flow applies as-is — this is just the sim’s indoor cabinet with heat strips riding along.

Split system A/C (straight cool)

Outdoor condenser plus an indoor furnace-and-coil or air handler — the most common machine in single-family homes and garden-style multi-family.

The whole sim is built on this machine: every wing of the board and the guided no-cool flow apply directly.

Evaporator coil

The indoor coil itself — cased or uncased, A, N or slab — often replaced separately from everything else, which is where mismatches are born.

Freeze-ups, restrictions, airflow starvation and mismatched-coil audits are all on the board, and the guided flow’s superheat/subcooling paths read straight through it. Match by capacity and metering device, never by badge.

Reading Miller model numbers

Modern platforms use long letter blocks with the size code buried mid-string: FSA1BF4M1SN36K carries 36 = 3 tons. Older Nordyne-era units read simpler (FS3BD-036K). Manufactured-housing equipment is its own grammar: M1MB-077 is a gas furnace at 77,000 BTU INPUT; E7EB-015H is an electric furnace at 15 kW — neither digit block is a cooling tonnage.

Thirty years of these units

The same platforms wore Nordyne, then Frigidaire/Maytag/Westinghouse/Gibson badges, now under Rheem ownership. In mobile-home parks the Miller/Intertherm M1 and E-series cabinets span three decades and are still the default replacement.

MH-approved package/split pairings carry their own listings — match by the listing, not just the size code.

Dating a unit from the serial

Serial date formats changed across the Nordyne→Nortek years — date these from the manufacturer’s table, not memory. Confirm era from the data plate’s refrigerant and the family table.
